Employees Get Moving for New Walk it Out™ Challenge

Keeping the momentum of the ControlTek Forward Living Program up this summer, our employees have implemented a new friendly competition with the “Walk it Out” fitness challenge.

Organized and run 100% by ControlTek employee volunteers, the new Walk it Out challenge is comprised of teams of six employees who compete to see which team can out-walk the others over the course of the summer months. The event kicked off last month with an all employee walk through the neighborhood to help generate awareness and get people excited to start moving!

This event got a huge response from our staff this year, with more than 75% of our employees participating on a team. Each team member receives a free pedometer from ControlTek Benefits plan provider, EBMS Insurance, to help them track their progress and stay ahead of the competition. As teams progress, they also earn Walk it Out wristbands of various colors so they can show off their progress. Each band represents the teams ‘arrival’ at U.S. cities whose distances they have walked together cumulatively as a team.

The competition will include several raffles throughout the summer for health-conscious prizes including water bottles and other fitness equipment, and final winners will enjoy the glory (and bragging rights for the year!) bestowed on them when they are seated at the highly coveted winners’ table for a final all-company barbecue at the end of the summer.

Walk it Out is just one example of what can be achieved when people make small changes during their day towards a more healthy lifestyle. Already we’ve had feedback from many employees that they have also enjoyed the chance to chat with coworkers while getting more movement during their day. A win-win for all participants!
